Pueri et Apes in Horto (Heidelberg)

SOURCE: Heidelberg's Lateinische Uebungs und Lesebuecher at GoogleBooks. This is not a fable in the classical Aesopic corpus, but it is very much in the spirit of Aesop.

READ OUT LOUD. Choose which marked text you prefer to practice with - macrons or accent marks - and read the text out loud until you feel comfortable and confident. Then, try reading the unmarked text at the bottom. It should be easy for you after practicing with the marked texts. :-)

MACRONS. Here is the text with macrons:

Duo puerī in hortō ambulābant. Cavēte, hortulānus monēbat, nē apēs turbētis; acūleum eae habent. Mē quidem nulla apēs unquam laesit, puerōrum alter rēspondēbat magnāque audāciā ad alveārium accurrēbat. At repentē acūleōs maximōsque inde dolōrēs sentiēbat. Alterum, quī hortulānō obtemperāverat, apēs nōn laedēbant. Uter fuit prūdentior?

ACCENT MARKS. Here is the text with ecclesiastical accents, plus some color-coding for the words of three or more syllables (blue: penultimate stress; red: antepenultimate stress):

Duo púeri in horto ambulábant. Cavéte, hortulánus monébat, ne apes turbétis; acúleum eae habent. Me quidem nulla apes unquam laesit, puerórum alter respondébat magnáque audácia ad alveárium accurrébat. At repénte acúleos maximósque inde dolóres sentiébat. Álterum, qui hortuláno obtemperáverat, apes non laedébant. Uter fuit prudéntior?

UNMARKED TEXT. Here is the unmarked text - after practicing with the marked text that you prefer, you should not have any trouble with the unmarked text:

Duo pueri
in horto ambulabant.
Cavete,
hortulanus monebat,
ne apes turbetis;
aculeum eae habent.
Me quidem
nulla apes unquam laesit,
puerorum alter respondebat
magnaque audacia
ad alvearium accurrebat.
At repente
aculeos
maximosque inde dolores
sentiebat.
Alterum,
qui
hortulano obtemperaverat,
apes non laedebant.
Uter fuit prudentior?
