Homo et Leo Aureus (DeFuria)

Timidus ūnā et avārus, Leōne aureō repertō, sēipsum sīc alloquēbātur: Quis modo sim nesciō, et quid agam ignōrō, ita sum mente animōque dēiectus. Hinc mē aurī cōpia, hinc timor rapit. Quae fors igitur, quisve Deōrum aureum Leōnem effinxit? At nunc meus animus in praesentiā sibi ipsī adversātur.

SOURCE: This comes from the Latin translation that accompanies De Furia's edition of the Greek Aesopic corpus, published in 1810 and available at GoogleBooks. This is fable 295 in De Furia; for other versions, see Perry 71.

ACCENT MARKS. Here is the text with accent marks, plus some color-coding for the words of three or more syllables (blue: penultimate stress; red: antepenultimate stress):

Tímidus una et avárus, Leóne aúreo repérto, seípsum sic alloquebátur: Quis modo sim néscio, et quid agam ignóro, ita sum mente animóque deiéctus. Hinc me auri cópia, hinc timor rapit. Quae fors ígitur, quisve Deórum aúreum Leónem effínxit? At nunc meus ánimus in praeséntia sibi ipsi adversátur.

UNMARKED TEXT. Here is the unmarked text - after practicing with the marked text that you prefer, you should not have any trouble with the unmarked text:

Timidus una et avarus,
Leone aureo reperto,
seipsum sic alloquebatur:
Quis modo sim
nescio,
et quid agam
ignoro,
ita sum
mente animoque deiectus.
Hinc me
auri copia,
hinc
timor rapit.
Quae fors igitur,
quisve Deorum
aureum Leonem effinxit?
At nunc meus animus
in praesentia
sibi ipsi adversatur.
Amat enim aurum,
sed metuit,
ne auro insidiae subsint.
O fortuna,
quae te mihi praebes,
neque frui permittis!
O iniucundus thesaurus!
O inutilis gratia Deorum!
Quomodo nunc utar?
Quid consilii capiam?
Profecto domum abibo,
domesticos accersam,
quorum
numero et auxilio fretus
hanc auri massam
hinc asportabo,
ac simul
procul spectator ero.
